Reports on the prescribed punishment for drinking wine

وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " مَنْ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ فَاجْلِدُوهُ ، ثُمَّ إِنْ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ فَاجْلِدُوهُ ، ثُمَّ إِنْ شَرِبَ فَاجْلِدُوهُ ، ثُمَّ إِنْ شَرِبَ الرَّابِعَةَ فَاقْتُلُوهُ " .
قَالَ : فَكَانَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ : ائْتُونِي بِرَجُلٍ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ، فَلَكُمْ عَلَيَّ أَنْ أَضْرِبَ عُنُقَهُ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ مِنْ طُرُقٍ ، وَرِجَالُ هَذِهِ الطَّرِيقِ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
قَالَ : فَكَانَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ : ائْتُونِي بِرَجُلٍ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ، فَلَكُمْ عَلَيَّ أَنْ أَضْرِبَ عُنُقَهُ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ مِنْ طُرُقٍ ، وَرِجَالُ هَذِهِ الطَّرِيقِ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Whoever drinks wine, flog him; then if he drinks wine, flog him; then if he drinks wine, flog him; then if he drinks a fourth time, kill him." The narrator says: Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: "Bring me a man who has drunk wine three times, and you have my word that I will have his neck struck."
