Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a man confesses to adultery and then flees at the time of being stoned, he is to be left alone."
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Al-Tirmidhi has recorded from this Companion the incident of Sayyiduna Ma'iz (may Allah be pleased with him), which contains the words: "Why did you not leave him alone?"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except Humayd al-Kindi, who is thiqah (trustworthy).
