Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the occasion of the Battle of Hunayn, the people fled, leaving the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), except for Sayyiduna Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Abu Sufyan bin al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that this call be made: "O people of Surah al-Baqarah! O company of the Ansar!" Then the Banu al-Harith bin al-Khazraj were called. When they heard the call, they came. By Allah, I can only liken them to camels coming to their young. When they arrived, the fighting intensified. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Now the furnace has become hot." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took a handful of white pebbles and threw them, and said: "By the Lord of the Ka'bah, they are routed." The narrator says: On that day Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) fought most fiercely of all in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Abu Ya'la, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, recorded it, and the narrators of both are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Imran bin Dawar, who is Abu al-Awwam; Ibn Hibban and others declared him thiqah (trustworthy), and Yahya bin Ma'in and others declared him da'if (weak).
