Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the occasion of the Battle of Hunayn I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The narrator says: The people turned away, leaving the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and eighty men from the Muhajirun and the Ansar remained with him. We stepped back about eighty paces, but we did not turn our backs. These are the people upon whom Allah Almighty sent down tranquillity. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was riding his mule, advancing forward. As he was advancing with his mule, its saddle slipped. I said to him: "Rise up, may Allah Almighty raise you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hand me a fistful of dust." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) threw that dust at their faces, and it filled their eyes. Then he asked: "Where are the Muhajirun and the Ansar?" I said: "They are here." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Call out to them." I called out to them, and they came with their swords in their hands, like shooting stars, and then the polytheists turned their backs and fled.
Ahmad, al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani recorded it. The narrators of Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih, except for al-Harith bin Hasirah, whose case is different, and he is thiqah (trustworthy).
