❖ Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!
Yes, zakāt is obligatory on a woman’s jewelry kept for adornment.
◈ Ḥadīth Evidence
It is narrated from ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ (RA):
(Abū Dāwūd, Kitāb az-Zakāh, Bāb al-Kanz Mā Huwa wa Zakāt al-Ḥulī)
Meaning:
A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ with her daughter who was wearing two gold bangles. The Prophet ﷺ asked:
“Do you give zakāt on these?”
She replied: “No.”
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Would you like Allah to make you wear two bangles of fire on the Day of Resurrection because of them?”
Hearing this, the woman removed the bangles and placed them before the Prophet ﷺ saying:
“They are for Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.”
◈ Conclusion
This ḥadīth is a clear proof that zakāt is obligatory on jewelry kept for adornment, provided that it reaches the niṣāb (minimum threshold) and a full year passes over it.
Hādhā mā ʿindī, wallāhu aʿlam biṣ-ṣawāb.
