The Ruling on Participation in Cultural Competitions
If competitions are not in accordance with the specified limits of Shariah (archery, horse riding, and camel riding), then receiving prizes in such competitions is not permissible, because these items are considered means of jihad. Similarly, competitions in religious knowledge-based matters also fall under this ruling, as the pursuit of knowledge is a form of jihad in the path of Allah, and the condition for awarding prizes is that it must be in permissible activities.
