Hadith 13: Kissing the Wife During Fasting

Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari, Al-Sawm, Chapter: Intimacy for the Fasting Person, Hadith: 1927

Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to kiss his pure wives while fasting and also engage in intimacy, but he was the most controlling of his desires among you all.

Answer:

This hadith is also authentic. Here too, the deniers of hadith have tried to deceive by interpreting intimacy as intercourse. The literal meaning of intimacy (mubasharah) is “body touching body.” The last sentence of the hadith is clear evidence that he exercised more self-restraint over his desires, meaning he did not engage in intercourse. The lesson implied here is that the Ummah should not follow him in this matter because they do not have the strength to control their desires.
