Saying “Aqāmahā Allāhu wa Adāmahā” After the Iqāmah – Sharʿī Ruling
Source: Fatāwā Arkān al-Islām
Question:
Is it correct to respond to the iqāmah by saying “Aqāmahā Allāhu wa Adāmahā” (“May Allāh establish it and make it everlasting”)?
Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!
A narration has been reported in which it is mentioned that when the muʾadhdhin would say during the iqāmah “Qad Qāmati al-Ṣalāh”, the Prophet ﷺ would reply:
“اَقَامَهَا اللّٰهُ وَاَدَامَهَا“
“May Allāh establish it and make it everlasting.”
(Sunan Abī Dāwūd, al-Ṣalāh, Bāb Mā Yaqūlu Iḏā Samiʿa al-Iqāmah, ḥadīth: 528; al-Sunan al-Kubrā lil-Bayhaqī 1/411)
However, this ḥadīth is weak. Al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar declared it weak in al-Talkhīṣ (1/211), and Shaykh al-Albānī also graded it weak in al-Irwāʾ (1/258).
Ruling:
Because the narration is weak, it is not established as a Sunnah to respond to the iqāmah with these words, and it should not be relied upon as evidence for practice.
