Question:
In the supplication after the adhān, is it permissible to add the words “Innaka Lā Tukhliful-Mīʿād” (“Indeed, You never break the promise”)?
Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!
1. Difference Among the Muḥaddithīn
- Some ḥadīth scholars have considered this phrase shādh (anomalous).
- Their reasoning is that most narrators of the duʿāʾ after the adhān did not report these words, and since that position in the duʿāʾ is a place of supplication and praise of Allāh, extra phrases should not be omitted or inserted without strong evidence.
2. Opinion of Those Who Allow It
- Among the scholars who consider “Innaka Lā Tukhliful-Mīʿād” authentic and acceptable is Shaykh ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Bāz رحمه الله.
- He stated that this addition is acceptable because Imām al-Bayhaqī narrated it with a ṣaḥīḥ chain.

3. Conclusion
- Both opinions exist:
➊ One group rejects it, calling it shādh.
➋ Another group accepts it, citing a sound chain of narration. - Therefore, if someone includes these words in the post-adhān duʿāʾ, they should not be reproached, as reliable scholars have graded it authentic.
