Ruling on Collecting Donations by Passing a Sheet After Jumuʿah Prayer

Source: Aḥkām wa Masāʾil, Kitāb al-Ṣalāh, Volume 1, Page 245

❖ Question

What is the ruling on collecting donations for the mosque during the two Friday sermons?
That is, when the khatīb finishes the first sermon and sits in silence, is it permissible at that moment to collect donations (by passing a sheet or cloth) for the mosque?

❖ Answer

Al-ḥamdu lillāh, wa-ṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā Baʿd!

If, after the Jumuʿah prayer is completely finished, i.e., after the salām of the Jumuʿah prayer, two respected individuals stand at the mosque entrance with a sheet to collect donations, then it is hoped, in shāʾ Allāh Tabāraka wa Taʿālā, that more contributions will be received for the support of the mosque.

Hādhā mā ʿindī wa-Allāhu Aʿlam bi-ṣ-ṣawāb.
