❀ Question:

If someone mistakenly gives the Fajr Adhan one hour early, and no worshiper realizes the mistake, so the congregational prayer is also held an hour before time, and after everyone has left, the imam hears other Adhans and realizes that both Adhan and prayer were done prematurely—what is the ruling?

❀ Answer:

✦ In such a case, the prayer must be repeated, because prayer performed before its time is invalid.

✿ Legal Principle:

Prayer is a time-bound obligation, as Allah ﷻ says:

إِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ كَانَتْ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ كِتَابًا مَّوْقُوتًا

(Surah al-Nisa: 103)
“Verily, the prayer is enjoined on the believers at fixed times.”

If a prayer is performed before the time enters, even by mistake, it is not valid and must be re-offered once the correct time has begun.

✔ Summary:

① If Adhan and Jama‘ah are conducted before time due to error, the prayer is invalid.
② All those who prayed in that congregation must repeat the prayer after the correct time enters.
③ Strict adherence to prayer times is essential for validity.
