Argument Number: 6
“Abu Abdullah al-Jadali narrated that Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Is it true that insults are hurled at the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) from the pulpits? I said: How can that be? Then she (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Are not insults hurled at Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and those who love him? I bear witness that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) loved them.”
Mirza Sahib deliberately translates the word “Sab” everywhere as an insult because in his mind the lies and accusations spoken by Maududi and Ishaq Jhalvi are circulating, and then he even claims that he has proven all those things from the books of Hadith (which they derived from historical narrations). Then he has to drag the words insult or curse into these narrations by some means. However, we have already proven under (Proof Number:1) that Mirza Sahib’s translation of this word as an insult or curse is incorrect. Mirza Sahib uses this narration to say that the slogan of the preachers used to be “Curse on Ali, curse on those who love Ali,” and the injustice is that this is also attributed to Hazrat Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), claiming that all this happened on his orders.
So it is stated that neither is Hazrat Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned in this, nor is there any indication, nor is it proven from him that he ever chanted such slogans outside the pulpit, let alone on the pulpit, nor is there any evidence that he ever ordered it. So what relation does all this have with Hazrat Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him)?
Mirza Sahib cannot prove any of his claims solely on the basis of evidence; rather, along with this evidence, he necessarily has to tell two or three lies. Among many lies, one such lie is that all this used to happen during the time of Hazrat Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him). However, there is neither any proof of this nor has Mirza Sahib ever presented any evidence for it. The narration is before you; if anyone sees any indication in it that this is an event from the time of Hazrat Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), they may differ with us, and if not, then understand that all these are conspiracies of Mirza Sahib against Hazrat Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), and in the name of truthfulness, he is leveling accusations against the Companions.
After this narration, Mirza Sahib always says that insulting Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) is the same as insulting the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! Engineer Sahib, in his research paper, also inserted this bracket on his own that “i.e., insulting Sayyiduna Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) from the pulpits is actually equivalent to insulting the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him),” whereas there is nothing like this in it. The matter is only that Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said that insults are hurled at the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and this relates to the fact that when those who love Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) are insulted, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) is also included because he (peace be upon him) loved Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) very much. She (may Allah be pleased with her) never said that insulting Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) is insulting the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). And even if that were the case, we would have no problem with it because neither Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) nor Sayyiduna Mughirah ibn Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) ever insulted Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). But Engineer Sahib’s logic needed to be clarified because he draws a strange and peculiar conclusion from it.
Engineer Sahib states that “Sab” can mean mentioning someone with criticism, but then he says here “Sab” means an insult, and as evidence, he presents this narration and says:
“See that it is in Musnad Abi Ya’la that Umm Salamah says: People! On your pulpits, insults are hurled at the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). They said: May Allah forbid, who would insult him? She said: Do you not insult those who love Ali? (Then Mirza Sahib colors it by saying:) Now the translation of Sab cannot be criticism! Is criticizing Hazrat Ali criticizing the Prophet (peace be upon him)? Is criticizing Hazrat Umar on the issue of Hajj Tamattu’—the Companions—criticizing the Prophet (peace be upon him)? No! Then this matter becomes false; they were insulting, yes! Insulting Hazrat Ali is insulting the Prophet (peace be upon him), why? Umm Salamah says: You insult those who love Ali, and I, the wife of the Prophet, testify that the Prophet loved Ali the most. When you insult Ali, in reality, you are insulting the Prophet. So it cannot be criticism; criticism cannot be the translation; the Hadith protects its own words.”

Now it is beyond our understanding what Mirza Sahib is saying or wants to say. If you wish, you can also refer to the video where you will also find a jumble. We have examined other videos of Mirza Sahib to understand this logic, hoping there might be clarity or explanation; among them is his famous video “Maslah 157, part a,” but even there the same words are used. (Duration 1:24:40)
Or perhaps Engineer Sahib’s arguments are so subtle and delicate that simple people like us cannot understand them.
Anyway, whatever the case, Hazrat Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) has no connection with this. You say all this happened on his orders, but there is no indication of this in the narration, nor has Mirza Sahib presented any other evidence. Therefore, since it is not proven that this event is from the time of Hazrat Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), or that all this happened by his order or permission, objecting to him is pointless.
