Allah Almighty says:

Worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him, and be good to parents

Reference: (An-Nisa: 36)

The command of the Almighty is: ووصیناالإنسان بوالدیہ احسانا

And We have enjoined upon man goodness to parents

Reference: (Al-Ankabut: 8)

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (RA) that:
I asked the Prophet ﷺ, “Which deed is most beloved to Allah?” He said, “Prayer at its appointed time.” I asked, “Then what?” He said, “Being good to parents.” I asked, “Then what?” He said, “Jihad in the way of Allah.”

Reference: (Sahih al-Bukhari: 527 and Sahih Muslim: 85)

Allah Almighty says:

If they (your parents) compel you to associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, then do not obey them, but accompany them in this world with appropriate kindness.

Reference: (Luqman: 15)

From this verse, three issues are understood:

1: Associating partners with Allah is forbidden.
2: There is no obedience to parents in disobedience to Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.
3: Obedience to parents is required in matters that are not against the Book and Sunnah.

The Prophet ﷺ commanded Abdullah bin Umar and bin Al-As
As long as your father is alive, obey him and do not disobey him

Reference: (Musnad Ahmad 2/125, Hadith 2538 with authentic chain)

Contrary to all these evidences, the Hadith denier Parvez Sahib mocks the rights of parents and writes:

“The third myth: Obedience to parents is obligatory. In this context, there is also a myth that obedience to parents is obligatory”

Reference: (Alamgir Afsanay, p. 17, published by Idara Tulu-e-Islam, Gulberg Lahore)

The falsehood of Parvez’s statement is clear to every Muslim

Warning: Whether it is parents, rulers, or anyone else opposing the Book and Sunnah, no one should be obeyed.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ’’لاطاعۃ فی معصیۃ اللہ، إنما الطاعۃ فی المعروف’’
There is no obedience in disobedience to Allah. Obedience is only in what is good (according to the Book and Sunnah)

Reference: (Sahih Muslim: 840, Idar al-Salam: 4765 and Sahih al-Bukhari: 7257)

It is narrated in a tradition: “رضی الرب فی رضی الوالدو وسخط الرب فی سخط الوالد”
The pleasure of the Lord lies in the pleasure of the parents, and the displeasure of the Lord lies in the displeasure of the parents

Reference: (At-Tirmidhi: 1899 and its chain is authentic, Ibn Hibban, Al-Mawarid: 2026, Al-Hakim in Al-Mustadrak 4/156, 151H7249 and authenticated according to the condition of Muslim and agreed upon by Al-Dhahabi)

A man asked the Messenger ﷺ: With whom should I be good? He said: With your mother. He asked: Then with whom? He said: With your mother. He asked: Then with whom? He said: With your mother. He asked: Then with whom? You said: Then with your father

Reference: (Sahih al-Bukhari: 5971 and Sahih Muslim: 2548)

Jahimah Al-Salmi, may Allah be pleased with him, was commanded by the Prophet ﷺ: “فالزمھافإن الجنۃ تحت رجلیھا”
So hold firmly to serving your mother, for Paradise is beneath her feet

Reference: (Sunan An-Nasa’i 6/11, Hadith 3106 and its chains are authentic)

Disobedience to parents in matters of kindness (according to the Book and Sunnah) is a major sin. It is narrated from Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet ﷺ was asked about major sins, and he said:
“الإ شراک باللہ و عقوق الوالدین و قتل النفس وشھادۃ الزور” Associating partners with Allah, disobedience to parents, killing a (innocent) person, and giving false testimony

Reference: (Al-Bukhari: 2653, Muslim: 88)

Abi bin Malik Al-Amiri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said:
‘‘من أدرک والدیہ أوأحدھما ثم دخل النار من بعد ذلک فأبعدہ اللہ وأسحقہ’’
Whoever finds his parents alive and then enters Hell because of not serving them, Allah has distanced him from His mercy and is displeased with him.

Reference: (Musnad Ahmad 4/344, Hadith 19236, and its chain is authentic)

Summary: Good treatment and obedience to parents is obligatory. Love your parents to please your Lord; if Jihad is not an individual obligation (Fard Ayn), it can be left for the sake of parents.
