❀ “Narrated Abdullah bin Umar (RA), he said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took my shoulder and said:
Live in this world as if you are a traveler or a wayfarer. Abdullah bin Umar (RA) used to say: When evening comes, do not wait for the morning, and when morning comes, do not wait for the evening. This is a human being, and this is his death surrounding him, and this line that extends outside is his hope. The small lines are his worldly difficulties. If a person escapes one difficulty, he falls into another.
And if he escapes the second, he falls into the third.”

When the Prophet ﷺ finished the prayer, the Ansar came before him. Seeing them, he smiled and said:
I think you have heard the news of Abu Ubaidah’s arrival and you must also know that he has brought something? The Ansar said:
Yes, O Messenger of Allah! He said:
Good news to you and hope for what will please you. By Allah! I do not fear poverty and hardship for you, but I fear that the world will be made abundant for you as it was made abundant for those before you, and you will compete with one another to acquire it just as they did, and it will also distract you as it distracted them.

What is your opinion about this man? He replied:
He is among the honorable people. By Allah! He is worthy that if someone sends a marriage proposal to him, he should be married, and if he recommends someone, it should be accepted. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained silent after hearing this. Then another man passed by, and he asked about him:

O Messenger of Allah! This man is from the poor class of Muslims. He is not worthy that if someone sends a marriage proposal to him, he should be married; if he recommends someone, it should not be accepted; and if he speaks, his words should not be listened to.

We visited Hazrat Khabbab bin Art (RA) and he said:
We migrated with the Prophet ﷺ seeking the pleasure of Allah, so our reward was guaranteed by Allah. Some of our companions became beloved to Allah and did not take any reward for themselves. Among them is Hazrat Mus’ab bin Umair (RA), who was martyred in the Battle of Uhud. He left behind only one sheet as his inheritance; when we covered his head with it as a shroud, his feet remained uncovered, and when we covered his feet, his head was exposed. So the Prophet ﷺ ordered us to cover his head and put Azkhar grass on his feet. And some of us are those whose fruits ripened well in this world, and they are enjoying picking and eating them.’’

Narrated Abu Huraira (RA), he said: By Allah, besides Whom there is no true deity, sometimes I would lie on my stomach on the ground due to hunger and tie a stone on my stomach because of hunger. One day, I sat on a path where the Companions used to pass by. Abu Bakr (RA) passed by, and I asked him about a verse from the Book of Allah. My only intention in asking was that he might feed me something, but he left without giving me anything. Then Umar (RA) passed by, and I asked him about a verse from the Quran, again only hoping he would feed me something, but he also passed silently without doing anything. After them, the Beloved Prophet Abu al-Qasim (ﷺ) passed by. When he saw me, he smiled. He looked at my face and understood what was in my heart, then he said:
“O Abu Huraira!”
I said:
“At your service, O Messenger of Allah!”
He said:
“Come with me.”
So when he started walking, I followed him. He went inside the house. Then I asked for permission to enter, and he allowed me. When he went inside, there was a bowl of milk. He asked:
“Where did this milk come from?”
The family said:
“This was sent to you as a gift by such and such man or woman.”
He (ﷺ) said:
“O Abu Huraira!”
I said:
“At your service, O Messenger of Allah!”
He said:
“Go to Ahl al-Suffa and bring them to me.”
Ahl al-Suffa were guests of Islam. They had no homes, families, or wealth, nor did they visit anyone. When charity came to the Prophet (ﷺ), he would send some to them and not eat from it himself, and when gifts came, he would eat some and send some to them, sharing with them. I disliked this. I thought about how much milk there was to be divided among Ahl al-Suffa. I was entitled to drink it and gain some strength. When they came, the Prophet (ﷺ) would instruct me to distribute it among them, and I might get nothing from the milk. But there was no choice except to obey Allah and His Messenger and fulfill their command. So I went to them and conveyed the invitation. They came and asked for permission to enter, which was granted. Then they settled in their places inside the Prophet’s house.
He said:
“O Abu Huraira!”
I said:
“At your service, O Messenger of Allah!”
He said:
“Take the bowl and give milk to all present.”
I took the bowl and began to give each one a drink. When a person drank and was satisfied, he returned the bowl to me. Then I gave it to the next person, who also drank and returned it to me, and so on until I reached the Prophet (ﷺ), while all Ahl al-Suffa had drunk and were satisfied. Finally, he took the bowl, placed it on his hand, looked at me, smiled, and said:
“O Abu Huraira!”
I said:
“At your service, O Messenger of Allah!”
He said:
“Only you and I remain.”
I said:
“O Messenger of Allah! You have spoken the truth.”
He said:
“Sit down and drink it.”
So I sat and began to drink the milk. He again said:
“Drink more.”
He kept urging me to drink until I said: By the One Who sent you with the truth! I cannot drink any more; I find no way for it. He said:
“Then give it to me.”
I gave him the bowl. He praised Allah and said Bismillah, then drank the remaining milk himself.
Narrated Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (RA), he said: I am the first Arab who shot an arrow in the way of Allah. We spent time in such a state that we fought in Jihad but had nothing to eat except leaves of the date palm and the husks of the acacia tree, and (due to dryness) we relieved ourselves like goats. There was nothing mixed in it. Now the people of Banu Asad want to teach me Islam and correct me. Then I became unfortunate and lost all that I had.
Narrated Aisha (RA), she said: After the family of Muhammad (ﷺ) came to Medina, they never had wheat bread to eat for three days at a time until the soul of the Prophet (ﷺ) was taken.
And from the same source, they narrated from Urwah bin Zubair, who said:
“O my nephew! Our condition was such that we saw three moons in two months, and there was no fire lit in the houses of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).” I asked:
“Then how did you manage?”
He said:
“On two black things, that is, water and dates. Yes, you had some Ansari neighbors who had milk-giving camels; they used to send milk to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and he would give us that milk to drink.”
Narrated Abu Huraira (RA), he said that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prayed: O Allah! Provide the family of Muhammad only with enough sustenance to keep them alive.
Chapter: Perseverance in Good Deeds and Moderation
Narrated Abu Huraira (RA), he said that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
None of you will be saved by his deeds.
The Companions asked:
O Messenger of Allah! Not even you?
He said:
Not even me, unless Allah envelops me in His mercy. Therefore, continue to act rightly, adopt moderation, go out in the morning and evening, and also during some parts of the night, travel moderately, and thus you will reach your destination.
Having Hope Along with Fear of Allah
Narrated Abu Huraira (RA), he said that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: When Allah created mercy, He divided it into one hundred parts. Then He kept ninety-nine parts with Himself and sent only one part to all His creation in this world. Therefore, if a disbeliever knew the extent of Allah’s mercy, he would never despair of Paradise, and if a believer knew the severity of every kind of punishment with Allah, he would never be fearless of Hell.
Avoiding What Allah Has Forbidden
❀ Allah Almighty has said:
Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account.
’’Hazrat Umar (RA) said:
We have found the best life in patience.“
’’Narrated Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (RA), he said that some people from the Ansar asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for something. Whoever asked from you, you gave it to them until the wealth you had was finished. When everything that you gave with your own two hands was finished, you said:
The good thing I have, I do not hide it from you, but the matter is that whoever remains among you, Allah will protect him. Whoever wants to be patient, Allah will grant him patience, and whoever wants self-sufficiency, Allah will make him self-sufficient. And you have not been given any blessing from Allah greater than patience.“
’’Narrated Hazrat Mughirah bin Shu’bah (RA), he said:
The Prophet ﷺ used to pray so long that his feet would swell. When he was told about it, he said:
Should I not be a thankful servant?‘‘
Statement on the Protection of the Tongue
’’Narrated Abu Huraira رضي الله عنه, he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say:
Indeed, a person utters a word with his tongue without giving it much thought, and because of that, he falls into the pit of Hell as far as the distance between the East and the West.’’
Statement on Fear of Allah
Narrated Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri رضي الله عنه, he said that the Prophet ﷺ mentioned a man from previous nations. Allah had granted him wealth and children. When the time of his death approached, he said to his sons:
What kind of father am I to you? They said:
You are a good father to us. He said:
Your father has not accumulated any good deeds before Allah, and if he is presented before Allah, He will surely punish him. Now take care of me; when I die, burn my body until I become coal, then grind me and scatter me on a windy day. He took a firm promise from his sons regarding this. By my Lord! His sons did as he instructed. Then Allah said:
Become! So he stood up in the form of a man. Allah said:
O My servant! What made you inclined to do this? He said: Your fear and Your dread (made me inclined). Allah rewarded him by having mercy on him (and pardoned him).
Hell is Covered with Desires of the Self
Narrated Abu Huraira رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Hell is surrounded by desires of the self, while Paradise is covered with hardships and difficulties.”

Narrated Abdullah bin Mas’ud رضي الله عنه, he said that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“Paradise is closer to you than the strap of your shoe, and Hellfire is likewise.”

Narrated Abu Huraira رضي الله عنه, he reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“When any one of you sees a person who is better than him in wealth and appearance, then at that time he should also look at someone who is of lower status than him.”

Narrated by Hazrat Ibn Abbas (RA), he reports from the Prophet ﷺ, who said to his Lord, the Almighty:
He said:
Allah Almighty has recorded good and evil deeds and then made them clear. So whoever intends a good deed but does not act upon it, Allah writes for him a full good deed with Himself. And if he intends a good deed and acts accordingly, Allah writes for him from ten to seven hundred times the good deed, or even more. And whoever intends an evil deed but does not act upon it, Allah writes for him a full good deed with Himself. But if he intends evil and acts upon it, Allah writes for him only one evil deed with Himself.

’’It is narrated from Hazrat Sahl bin Sa’d Sa’di (RA) that he said the Prophet ﷺ saw a man who was stacking the corpses of the polytheists. This man was wealthy among the people. The Prophet ﷺ said:
If anyone wants to see a person of Hell, let him see this man. After that, a person started following him to observe him. That man kept shouting continuously until he got wounded. Unable to bear the wounds, he wanted to die quickly, so he placed the edge of his sword on his chest and then pressed his burden on it, which pierced through his shoulders.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
A person acts in front of people as if he is among the people of Paradise, while he is actually among the people of Hell. Conversely, another person acts in front of people as if he is among the people of Hell, while he is actually among the people of Paradise. The deeds are judged by their endings.’’

When I love him, I become his hearing with which he hears, his sight with which he sees, his hand with which he grips, and his foot with which he walks. If he asks Me, I give him; if he seeks refuge with Me, I grant him refuge. I do not hesitate to do anything I do when I take the soul of a believer. No, it is not what you think. Rather, when a believer faces death, he is given glad tidings of Allah’s pleasure and honor and respect in the Hereafter, which is better than anything he knows. Therefore, he becomes desirous of meeting Allah, and Allah also likes to meet him. But when the time of death comes for a disbeliever, he is informed of Allah’s punishment and the torment awaiting him, which is extremely unpleasant to him. Hence, he dislikes meeting Allah, and so Allah also does not like to meet him.

Narrated Abu Huraira (RA), he said that some people asked, “O Messenger of Allah! Will we be able to see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection?” He replied:
“Do you find any difficulty in seeing the sun when there are no clouds or anything over it?” The people said, “No, O Messenger of Allah!” Then he said:
“Do you find any difficulty in seeing the full moon on the fourteenth night when there are no clouds?” The people said, “No, O Messenger of Allah!” He said:
“Indeed, you will see Allah on the Day of Resurrection in the same way.” Allah will gather the people and say:
“Whoever worshipped anyone, let him follow him.” So those who worshipped the sun will follow it, those who worshipped the moon will follow it, those who worshipped idols will follow them, and finally, this Ummah will remain. Among them will be a group of hypocrites. At that time, Allah will come before them in a form they will not recognize and say:
“I am your Lord.” The people will say:
“Refuge is with Allah from you! We will remain in our place until our Lord comes before us.” When their Lord comes before them, they will recognize Him. Then Allah will come in a form they recognize and say:
“I am your Lord.” The people will say, “Indeed, You are our Lord,” and then they will follow Him. The bridge over Hellfire will be placed. The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“I will be the first person to cross that bridge.” On that day, the supplication of the messengers will be:
“O Allah! Let us pass safely. O Allah! Let us pass safely.” The bridge over Hellfire will have thorns like the thorns of Sa’dan’s ears. Have you seen the thorns of Sa’dan’s ears? The people said, “Yes, O Messenger of Allah, we have seen them.” He said:
“They will be like the thorns of Sa’dan’s ears, but their length and width are known only to Allah.” They will seize people according to their deeds. Some will perish due to their deeds, and some will be wounded but will be saved until Allah finishes His judgment among His servants and wishes to take out from Hellfire those whom He wills to take out. Those who testified that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, Allah will command the angels to take such people out of Hellfire. The angels will recognize them by the marks of prostration because Allah has forbidden Hellfire to show the marks of prostration on the bodies of the children of Adam. So when the angels take them out, they will have turned into coal. Then water called the Water of Life will be poured on them. They will become fresh and green as a seed grows in the debris of a flood. One person will remain whose face will be towards Hellfire. He will say:
“O my Lord! Its smell has troubled me, and its heat has burned me. Turn my face away from Hellfire.” He will continuously pray to Allah in this manner until Allah will say:
“If I fulfill your request, will you ask for anything else?” He will say:
“By Your Honor, O my Lord! I will not ask for anything else.” So his face will be turned away from Hellfire. Then he will say:
“O my Lord! Place me near the gate of Paradise.” Allah will say:
“Did you not assure Me that you would not ask for anything else? Alas, O son of Adam! How treacherous and forgetful you are.” Then he will continue to pray. Allah will say:
“If I accept this prayer of yours, will you not ask for anything else?” He will say:
“No, by Your Honor! I will not ask for anything else.” He will give Allah a strong covenant that he will not ask for anything else. Allah will place him near the gate of Paradise. When he sees the things of Paradise, he will remain silent as long as Allah wills, then he will say:
“O my Lord! Admit me to Paradise.” Allah will say:
“Did you not assure Me that you would not ask for anything else? O son of Adam! How much you break your promises.” He will say:
“O my Lord! Do not make me the greatest wretched among Your creation.” He will continue to pray until Allah laughs. When Allah laughs at him, that person will be allowed to enter Paradise. When he enters, he will be told: “Desire such and such things.” He will desire them. Then he will be told: “Wish for such and such things,” and he will desire them until all his wishes are fulfilled. After that, Allah will say to him:
“All your wishes are fulfilled, and even more blessings are given to you.” Abu Huraira (RA) said:
“This person will be the last to enter Paradise.”
