✦ Is It Sunnah to Close the Eyes During Salah?
📘 Imām Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله states:
“Closing the eyes during Salah was not the practice of the Prophet ﷺ.”
This is evident from the narration regarding Tashahhud, where the Prophet ﷺ used to look at the finger he pointed during du‘āʾ.
📚 Zād al-Ma‘ād: 1/248
📘 Imām Fayrūz Ābādī رحمه الله also affirms:
“The Prophet ﷺ used to keep his eyes open during prayer.”
📚 Safar al-Saʿādah: p. 20
✅ Summary:
✔ The Sunnah is to keep the eyes open during Salah.
✔ There is no authentic evidence of the Prophet ﷺ closing his eyes during prayer.
✔ Closing the eyes may be tolerated only to avoid distraction, but should not become a regular practice.
