❀ Ruling on Offering Jumuʿah Prayer Without Iqāmah ❀

❖ Question:
If the Jumuʿah (Friday) prayer is performed without calling the Iqāmah, is the prayer still valid?
If this has already occurred, does the prayer need to be repeated?
❖ Answer:
Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
✔ General Rule on Adhān and Iqāmah in Congregational Prayers:
The Adhān (call to prayer) and the Iqāmah (call to commence the prayer) are considered among the symbols (Shaʿāʾir) of Islam, and their observance is a regular Sunnah in all congregational prayers—whether performed in a city, village, or even in the wilderness.
🟢 The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Let one of you call the Adhān, and the eldest among you should lead the prayer.”
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 628, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: 674)
❖ What if Iqāmah is Omitted (Intentionally or by Mistake)?
🔹 If a person intentionally omits the Iqāmah, it is a reprehensible act, as it opposes authentic ḥadīths and Islamic practice.
🔹 However, if the Iqāmah is forgotten (سہواً), then the prayer is still valid, and there is no need to repeat it.
❖ Statements of the Tābiʿīn (Successors of the Companions):
➤ ʿAṭāʾ ibn Abī Rabāḥ (رحمه الله):
He held that if the Iqāmah is forgotten, the prayer should be repeated.

➤ Mujāhid (رحمه الله):
He also stated that if the Iqāmah is missed, the prayer must be reoffered.

He held that repeating the prayer is not required if Iqāmah is missed.

✅ Preferred (Rājiḥ) View:
Among the above differing views, the stronger opinion is that if the Iqāmah is omitted, whether intentionally or forgetfully:
✔ The prayer is valid
✔ Repetition is not necessary
This view is supported by the fact that no authentic narration proves the invalidity of prayer without Iqāmah.
