Question: Some verses of the Holy Quran are present in certain newspapers and magazines, and similarly, some papers and letters have بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم written at the beginning. The question is, what should be done with such newspapers, magazines, and letters after reading them? Should they be torn, burned, or what should be done?
Answer: After reading such newspapers, magazines, or letters, it is necessary to preserve them, or else they should be burned and then disposed of in clean water, or buried in a pure place. The purpose is to protect the Quranic verses and the names of Allah from disrespect. Therefore, throwing them in piles of garbage or markets, making envelopes out of such papers, or using them as tablecloths for eating, etc., is not permissible.
In this way, the sacred verses and the names of Allah are disrespected and their sanctity is violated.
