Question: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ had designated a specific day for women so that they could gain knowledge of their religious matters. He ﷺ also allowed women to attend mosques for education, even if they stayed behind the men. So why do the respected scholars nowadays not follow the example of the Prophet ﷺ in this regard? Although scholars have shown some effort in this matter, it is insufficient and more needs to be done, which we are waiting for.
Answer: There is no doubt that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ adopted this practice, and praise be to Allah, scholars have also maintained this tradition. I myself have practiced this many times, not only here but also in Makkah, Taif, and Jeddah. If I am invited, I find no obstacle in dedicating some time specifically for women anywhere. My fellow scholars share the same stance.
Through the radio program (Noor Ala al-Darb), Allah Almighty has opened many doors of goodness. Any woman can send questions to this program and receive answers. This program is broadcast twice every night on Radio Nidaa al-Islam (Makkah) and Radio Quran Kareem (Riyadh). Similarly, women can directly send questions to Dar al-Ifta, where a committee of scholars answers these questions. This committee has been formed solely for this purpose. In any case, men and women have equal rights to seek knowledge. If a woman wishes to attend scholarly lectures while observing hijab and without adornment, there is no harm in that.
