أَنْبَأَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَوْسِ بْنِ الْحَدَثَانِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَنْشُدُ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ ، وَعَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَوْفٍ ، وَسَعْدَ بْنَ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ، وَطَلْحَةَ ، وَالزُّبَيْرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ ، فَقَالَ : أَنْشُدُكُمُ اللَّهَ الَّذِي بِإِذْنِهِ تَقُومُ السَّمَاءُ وَالأَرْضُ أَسَمِعْتُمْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " إِنَّا لا نُورَثُ ، مَا تَرَكْنَا فَهُوَ صَدَقَةٌ " ؟ قَالُوا : نَعَمْ " .
Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) made Uthman, Ali, Abdur Rahman bin Awf, Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas, Talha, and Zubair (may Allah be pleased with them) swear an oath, saying: I swear you by the One by whose command the heavens and the earth are established, did you hear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “We do not leave inheritance; what we leave behind is charity?” So all of them replied: Yes.
