عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ ، مَوْلَى الْمُنْبَعِثِ , عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنِ اللُّقَطَةِ ، فَقَالَ : " اعْرِفْ عِفَاصَهَا وَوِكَاءَهَا ثُمَّ عَرِّفْهَا سَنَةً ، فَإِنْ جَاءَ صَاحِبُهَا وَإِلا فَشَأْنُكَ بِهَا " ، قَالَ : فَضَالَّةُ الْغَنَمِ ؟ قَالَ : " لَكَ أَوْ لأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ " قَالَ : فَضَالَّةُ الإِبِلِ ؟ قَالَ : " مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا مَعَهَا سِقَاؤُهَا وَحِذَاؤُهَا تَرِدُ الْمَاءَ وَتَأْكُلُ الشَّجَرَ حَتَّى يَلْقَاهَا رَبُّهَا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid Al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked: "What is the ruling regarding a lost item?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recognize its pouch and its tie, then announce it for a year. If its owner comes, hand it over to him; if not, then benefit from it." The man asked about a lost goat. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is yours, or your brother's, or the wolf's." The man asked about a lost camel. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It has its water-bag and its feet with it; it can reach water and eat from the trees until its owner finds it."
