حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ : هَلَكْتُ ، قَالَ : " وَمَا أَهْلَكَكَ ؟ " قَالَ : وَقَعْتُ عَلَى امْرَأَتِي فِي رَمَضَانَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " هَلْ تَجِدُ رَقَبَةً تُعْتِقُهَا ؟ " قَالَ : لا قَالَ : " فَهَلْ تَسْتَطِيعُ صَوْمَ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ ؟ " قَالَ : لا قَالَ : " فَهَلْ تَسْتَطِيعُ إِطْعَامَ سِتِّينَ مِسْكِينًا ؟ " قَالَ : لا أَجِدُهُ قَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اجْلِسْ " ، فَبَيْنَمَا هُوَ جَالِسٌ كَذَلِكَ إِذْ أُتِيَ بِعَرَقٍ فِيهِ تَمْرٌ ، قَالَ سُفْيَانُ : وَالْعَرَقُ الْمِكْيَالُ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اذْهَبْ فَتَصَدَّقْ بِهِ " قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ فَمَا بَيْنَ لابَتَيْهَا أَهْلُ بَيْتٍ أَحْوَجُ إِلَيْهِ مِنَّا قَالَ : فَضَحِكَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى بَدَتْ أَنْيَابُهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ : " اذْهَبْ فَأَطْعِمْهُ عِيَالَكَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "I am ruined." The Prophet (ﷺ) asked, "What has ruined you?" He replied, "I had intercourse with my wife while I was fasting." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Can you free a slave?" He said, "No." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Are you able to fast for two consecutive months?" He said, "I cannot." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Are you able to feed sixty needy people?" He said, "No." So the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Sit down." He remained sitting like that until a basket of dates was brought. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Take this and give it as charity." The man said, "O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)! By the One Who sent you with the truth, there is no one between these two mountains more in need of these dates than I am." The narrator says that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) laughed so much that his blessed molar teeth became visible, then he said, "Go and feed it to your family."
