It is narrated from Abdullah bin Muhairiz (may Allah have mercy on him) that he was an orphan and was brought up in the lap of Sayyiduna Abu Mahdhurah (may Allah be pleased with him) until Sayyiduna Abu Mahdhurah (may Allah be pleased with him) prepared him and sent him to Syria. He says: I said to Sayyiduna Abu Mahdhurah (may Allah be pleased with him): Uncle, I am going to Syria, and I expect that (there) I will be asked about your call to prayer (adhan), so please tell me something. Sayyiduna Abu Mahdhurah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I went out with some people; we were on the road to Hunayn when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was returning from Hunayn. On the way, we met, and the muezzin of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) called the adhan for prayer in front of him. We heard the voice of the muezzin; we were at some distance. We began to imitate the loud voice of the muezzin, mocking him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) heard the voices and sent for us until we stood before him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Which one of you is the one whose loud voice I heard?" The people pointed towards me and spoke the truth. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) let all of them go and kept me back and said: "Stand up and call the adhan for prayer." I stood up, and at that moment, the most disliked to me was the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and his command. (At that time, they were not Muslims.) I stood before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) himself taught me the adhan. He said: «اللَّهُاَكْبَرُاللَّهُاَكْبَرُ،اللهُأَكْبَرُاللَّهُاَكْبَرُ،اَشْهَدُأَنْلَاإِلَهَإِلَّااللَّهُ،أَشْهَدُأَنْلَاإِلَهَإِلَّااللهُ،اَشْهَدُأَنَّمُحَمَّدًارَسُولُاللهِ،اَشْهَدُأَنَّمُحَمَّدًارَسُولُاللهِ», then he said: Say again: «اَشْهَدُاَنْلَّاإِلَهَإِلَّااللهُ،اَشْهَدُاَنْ لا إِلَهَإِلَّااللَّهُ،اَشْهَدُأَنَّمُحَمَّدًارَسُوْلُاللهِ،اَشْهَدُأَنَّمُحَمَّدًارَسُولُاللهِ،حَيَّىعَلَىالصَّلاةِ،حَيَّعَلَىالصَّلَاةِ،حَيَّعَلَىالْفَلَاحِ،حَيَّعَلَىالْفَلَاحِ،اللهُأَكْبَرُاللهُأَكْبَرُلَاإِلَهَإِلَّااللهُ». Then he called me when the adhan was completed, then he gave me a pouch in which there was silver. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) placed his hand on my forehead, then on my face, then spread it over my chest, then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) placed his hand on my navel, then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) made supplication «بَارِكَاللَّهُفِيكَوَبَارِكَعَلَيْكَ» (then faith had penetrated inside). I said: O Messenger of Allah! Make me the muezzin of Makkah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "You have been appointed." So all the dislike that was in my heart for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) disappeared, and love took its place. So I went to the governor of Makkah, ‘Attab bin Asid (may Allah be pleased with him), and continued to call the adhan before him by the order of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Ibn Jurayj (may Allah have mercy on him) says: Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) informed us that I heard from the family of Abu Mahdhurah (may Allah be pleased with him) in the same way as Abdullah bin Muhairiz (may Allah have mercy on him) reported.

It is narrated from Umar bin Ata’ (may Allah have mercy on him) that Nafi’ bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy on him) sent him to Sa’ib bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him), the nephew of Numair, to ask him about the matter which Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) had seen in his prayer. Sa’ib (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Yes, I performed the Friday prayer with Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) in the chamber of the mosque, and when the Imam said salam, I stood in my place and performed prayer. When Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) entered, he called me and said: Do not do this again. When you have performed the Friday prayer, do not join it with any other prayer until you have spoken or left that place, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded that “You should not join one prayer with another until you move from that place or speak.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) would begin the obligatory prayer, he would recite this supplication: "I have turned my face towards Him who created the heavens and the earth, being ever-inclined to the true religion, and I am not among the polytheists. Indeed, my prayer, my sacrifice, my life, and my death are for Allah, the Lord of all the worlds, who has no partner. This is what I have been commanded, and I am of those who submit. O Allah, You are the King, there is no true deity except You. You are pure, and all praise is for You. You are my Lord, and I am Your servant. I have wronged myself, I confess my sins, so forgive all my sins, for none forgives sins except You. Guide me to the best of manners and character, for none guides to the best of them except You. Turn me away from bad manners and habits, for none can turn them away except You. Here I am, obedient to You. All good is in Your hands. The one whom You guide is truly guided. I seek Your help and turn to You. You are blessed and exalted. I seek forgiveness from You and turn to You in repentance."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that (when a married man) marries a virgin woman, he should stay with her for seven days, and if he marries a widow or a divorced woman, he should stay with her for three days (then establish the turn). This is the Sunnah.

It is narrated from Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) used to instruct that after the obligatory prayer, if one intends to offer voluntary prayers, then one should change place or speak, and then offer the voluntary or Sunnah prayers. Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated a hadith: "When any of you has offered the obligatory prayer and then wishes to offer something after it, he should not do so until he moves a little forward or engages in conversation."

The narrator says that Ibn Umm Maktum was blind; he would give the call to prayer only when it was said to him, "Morning has come, you have entered the morning."

He replied, "I had intercourse with my wife while I was fasting." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Can you free a slave?" He said, "No." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Are you able to fast for two consecutive months?" He said, "I cannot." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Are you able to feed sixty needy people?" He said, "No." So the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Sit down." He remained sitting like that until a basket of dates was brought. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Take this and give it as charity." The man said, "O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)! By the One Who sent you with the truth, there is no one between these two mountains more in need of these dates than I am." The narrator says that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) laughed so much that his blessed molar teeth became visible, then he said, "Go and feed it to your family."

The man said, "I do not have the ability to do that." Then a basket of dates was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so he said, "Take this and give it as charity." The man said, "There is no one more needy than me." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) laughed until his blessed molar teeth became visible, then he said, "Then you eat it."

So he (ﷺ) said: "I had intended to fast (but then broke the fast)." He (ﷺ) said: "But soon I will fast a day in place of this fast." Imam Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I used to hear this hadith from Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah (may Allah have mercy on him) in general gatherings, but he would not mention the words "soon I will fast a day in place of this fast." Then, I read this hadith to him a year before his death, and he added these words: "Soon I will fast a day in place of this fast."
