قَالَ الرَّبِيعُ: قُلْتُ لِلشَّافِعِيِّ: هَلْ تَرْوِي فِيهَا شَيْئًا عَالِيًا؟ فَقَالَ: أَمَّا شَيْءٌ يَثْبُتُ مِثْلُهُ فَلَا، فَقُلْتُ: مَا هُوَ؟ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي الثِّقَةُ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: " فِي بَيْضَةِ النَّعَامَةِ يُصِيبُهَا الْمُحْرِمُ قِيمَتُهَا " قُلْتُ: قَدْ رُوِيَ هَذَا مَوْصُولًا إِلَّا أَنَّهُ مُخْتَلَفٌ فِيهِ.
Imam al-Rabi' (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I asked Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him): Do you narrate any report with a high (short) chain on this matter? He said: "Nothing whose like is established." I said: What is the report? He said: "A trustworthy narrator informed me from Abu al-Zinad that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'For an ostrich egg that a person in ihram breaks, its value is due.'" I said: This report has also been narrated mawsulan (with a connected chain), but there is disagreement about it (its chain).
