Sayyiduna Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! We live in the land of the People of the Book and we eat from their vessels, and in a land of game we hunt with our bows, and I hunt with my trained dog and with my untrained dog. Tell me, what is lawful for us?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As for what you mentioned about the land of the People of the Book and eating from their vessels: if you find other vessels, then do not eat (from theirs). If you do not find any, then clean their vessels thoroughly and eat. As for what you mentioned about the land of game: whatever game you get with your arrow, mention the name of Allah and eat it; and whatever you hunt with your trained dog, mention the name of Allah and eat it (that is, after saying Bismillah); and if you hunt with your untrained dog and you slaughter the game yourself, then eat it."

Sayyiduna Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I shoot arrows at game; some of it I catch and slaughter, and some of it I do not find.
What is lawful for me and what is unlawful? We live in the land of the People of the Book; they eat pork in their vessels and drink wine in them. May we eat and drink from their vessels? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever your arrow brings back to you, and you have mentioned the name of Allah over it, eat it. If you can do without the vessels of the People of the Book, then do not eat (from them). If you cannot do without them, then wash them thoroughly with water, and afterwards eat from them."

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A Jewish woman presented a poisoned roasted goat to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) ate from it. She was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked her about it. She said: I intended to kill you. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty will not give you power over me (that is, you cannot destroy me)." The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked: Shall we not kill her? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No." The narrator said: I continued to notice it in the uvula, that is, the throat, of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
