Sa'id bin Jubayr (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Jews disputed with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: You eat what we kill, but you do not eat what Allah kills? So Allah revealed this verse: "And do not eat of that over which the name of Allah has not been mentioned" [Surah al-An'am: 121].

Ikrimah narrates from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning this saying of Allah Almighty, "And indeed the devils inspire their allies to dispute with you" [Surah al-An'am: 121], that they used to say: What Allah slaughters, do not eat, and what you yourselves slaughter, eat. So Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "And do not eat of that over which the name of Allah has not been mentioned" [Surah al-An'am: 121].
