Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Busaysah as a scout to observe the movements of Abu Sufyan's caravan. The narrator says: When he came, there was no one in the house except me and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he related the account.

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: On the day of the Battle of al-Ahzab, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Who will bring me news of the people?" Al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I will. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said again: "Who will bring me news of the people?" Al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I will. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said again: "Who will scout out the people for me?" Al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I will. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has a disciple (hawari), and my disciple is al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him)."

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: On the day of the Trench, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called out to the people, and Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Labbayk (Here I am). Then a second time he (peace and blessings be upon him) called the people, and al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Labbayk. Then a third time he (peace and blessings be upon him) called out, and al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Labbayk. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every prophet has a sincere companion, and my sincere companion is al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him)." Ibrahim al-Taymi narrates from his father: We were with Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with them both). A man said: If I had found the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I would have worn myself out fighting alongside him (peace and blessings be upon him). Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Would you have done that? We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on one of the nights of the Battle of al-Ahzab, a night of fierce wind and cold, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is there a man who will bring me news of the people? He will be with me on the Day of Resurrection." None of us answered him. Then he said the same a second time, and then said: "O Hudhayfah, bring us news of the people." Now I had no choice, since he (peace and blessings be upon him) had called me by name to stand up. He said: "Bring news of the people, and do not alert them about me." He says: I went as though I were walking calmly. When I came near Abu Sufyan, he was warming his back at the fire. I placed my arrow in my bow and intended to shoot him, then I remembered the words of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), that he (peace and blessings be upon him) had said: "Do not stir them up against me." Had I shot him, I could have killed him. He says: I came back as though I were walking in warmth. When I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I then felt the cold, once I had finished my task. I informed him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) put the spare part of his cloak over me, and I remained asleep until morning. When morning came, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Get up, O heavy sleeper!"
