Ibrahim al-Taymi narrates from his father: We were with Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with them both). A man said: If I had found the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I would have worn myself out fighting alongside him (peace and blessings be upon him). Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Would you have done that? We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on one of the nights of the Battle of al-Ahzab, a night of fierce wind and cold, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is there a man who will bring me news of the people? He will be with me on the Day of Resurrection." None of us answered him. Then he said the same a second time, and then said: "O Hudhayfah, bring us news of the people." Now I had no choice, since he (peace and blessings be upon him) had called me by name to stand up. He said: "Bring news of the people, and do not alert them about me." He says: I went as though I were walking calmly. When I came near Abu Sufyan, he was warming his back at the fire. I placed my arrow in my bow and intended to shoot him, then I remembered the words of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), that he (peace and blessings be upon him) had said: "Do not stir them up against me." Had I shot him, I could have killed him. He says: I came back as though I were walking in warmth. When I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I then felt the cold, once I had finished my task. I informed him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) put the spare part of his cloak over me, and I remained asleep until morning. When morning came, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Get up, O heavy sleeper!"
