أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا السَّرِيُّ بْنُ خُزَيْمَةَ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ كَامِلُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْمُسْتَمْلِيُّ، أنبأ أَبُو سَهْلٍ بِشْرُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْإِسْفِرَايِينِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو سُلَيْمَانَ دَاوُدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ الْبَيْهَقِيُّ بِخَسْرُوجَرْدَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ: قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ، عَنِ أَبِي النَّضْرِ، أَنَّ أَبَا مُرَّةَ مَوْلَى أُمِّ هَانِئٍ بِنْتِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ أَخْبَرَهُ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أُمَّ هَانِئٍ بِنْتَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا تَقُولُ: ذَهَبْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَامَ الْفَتْحِ فَوَجَدْتُهُ يَغْتَسِلُ وَفَاطِمَةُ ابْنَتُهُ عَلَيْهَا السَّلَامُ تَسْتُرُهُ بِثَوْبٍ، قَالَتْ: فَسَلَّمْتُ، فَقَالَ: " مَنْ هَذِهِ؟ ". فَقُلْتُ: أُمُّ هَانِئٍ بِنْتُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، فَقَالَ: " مَرْحَبًا بِأُمِّ هَانِئٍ ". فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ مِنْ غُسْلِهِ قَامَ فَصَلَّى ثَمَانِيَ رَكَعَاتٍ مُلْتَحِفًا فِي ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، زَعَمَ ابْنُ أُمِّي عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ أَنَّهُ قَاتِلٌ رَجُلًا أَجَرْتُهُ فُلَانَ بْنَ هُبَيْرَةَ. قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " قَدْ أَجَرْنَا مَنْ أَجَرْتِ يَا أُمَّ هَانِئٍ ". قَالَتْ أُمُّ هَانِئٍ: وَذَلِكَ ضُحًى. " لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ يَحْيَى بْنِ يَحْيَى، وَفِي حَدِيثِ الْقَعْنَبِيِّ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ، فَقُلْتُ، وَالْبَاقِي سَوَاءٌ "، رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنِ الْقَعْنَبِيِّ، وَرَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ يَحْيَى.
Sayyidah Umm Hani bint Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with her) says: In the year of the Conquest of Makkah I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When I arrived, he (peace and blessings be upon him) was taking a bath, and his (peace and blessings be upon him) daughter Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) was screening him (peace and blessings be upon him) with a cloth. I greeted him, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Who is it?" I replied: I am Umm Hani bint Abi Talib. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Welcome to Umm Hani!" When he (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished his bath, he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood and prayed eight voluntary rak'ahs wrapped in a single cloth. Then he turned towards me, and I said: My brother Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that he intends to kill a man, so-and-so bin Hubayrah, to whom I have given protection. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Umm Hani! Whomever you have given protection, we too give protection." Sayyidah Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) said: That was at the time of the forenoon (duha).
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي، وَأَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْمُقْرِئُ، وَأَبُو صَادِقٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعَطَّارُ، قَالُوا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ، أنبأ ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي مُرَّةَ مَوْلَى عَقِيلِ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، عَنْ أُمِّ هَانِئٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا، قَالَتْ: أَجَرْتُ حَمْوَيْنِ لِي مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ، فَدَخَلَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ فَتَفَلَّتَ عَلَيْهِمَا لِيَقْتُلَهُمَا، وَقَالَ: لِمَ تُجِيرِي الْمُشْرِكِينَ، فَقَالَتْ: وَاللهِ لَا تَقْتُلُهُمَا حَتَّى تَبْدَأَ بِي قَبْلَهُمَا. فَخَرَجَتْ، وَقَالَتْ: أَغْلِقُوا دُونَهُ الْبَابَ، وَذَهَبَتْ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَأَخْبَرَتْهُ، فَقَالَ: " مَا كَانَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ، وَقَدْ أَمَّنَّا مَنْ أَمَّنْتِ وَأَجَرْنَا مَنْ أَجَرْتِ ".
Abu Murrah, the freed slave of Aqil bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), says that Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) gave protection to two of her in-laws who were idolaters, and Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) set out to kill them both, saying: Why have you given protection to idolaters? Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Kill me before you kill them. Then she went out and said: Lock the door against him. She went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Umm Hani! That was not his right. Whomever you have granted safety, we too grant safety; whomever you have given protection, we too give protection."
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ، وَأَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ، وَأَبُو صَادِقٍ، قَالُوا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ، أنبأ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ، أنبأ ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي عِيَاضُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ مَخْرَمَةَ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا، أَنَّ ⦗١٦٢⦘ أُمَّ هَانِئٍ بِنْتَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ حَدَّثَتْهُ، أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: زَعَمَ ابْنُ أُمِّي عَلِيٌّ أَنَّهُ قَاتِلٌ مَنْ أَجَرْتُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " قَدْ أَجَرْنَا مَنْ أَجَرْتِ ".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that Sayyidah Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "My brother, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), intends to kill the one to whom I have given protection." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "We too have given protection to the one to whom you have given protection."
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي، وَأَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو، قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَفَّانَ، ثنا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا، قَالَتْ: " إِنْ كَانَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ لَتَأْخُذُ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَيُجَوِّزُونَ ذَلِكَ لَهَا ".
Al-Aswad narrates from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: If a woman granted protection against the Muslims, they would regard her grant of protection as valid.
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ، قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، أنبأ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ، أنبأ ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، عَنْ عِرَاكِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْغِفَارِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، أَنَّ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهَا زَوْجُهَا أَبُو الْعَاصِ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ أَنْ خُذِي لِي أَمَانًا مِنْ أَبِيكِ، فَخَرَجَتْ فَأَطْلَعَتْ رَأْسَهَا مِنْ بَابِ حُجْرَتِهَا وَالنَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي صَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ، فَقَالَتْ: أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، أَنَا زَيْنَبُ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَإِنِّي قَدْ أَجَرْتُ أَبَا الْعَاصِ. فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ الصَّلَاةِ قَالَ: " أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، إِنِّي لَمْ أَعْلَمْ بِهَذَا حَتَّى سَمِعْتُمُوهُ، أَلَا وَإِنَّهُ يُجِيرُ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ أَدْنَاهُمْ ".
Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her), the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), was sent by her husband Abu al-As bin al-Rabi' (may Allah be pleased with him) to him (peace and blessings be upon him) to seek protection. She went, and her head appeared out of her room, while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was leading the morning prayer. She said: I am Zaynab, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I have given protection to Abu al-As. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, he said: "I too did not know about what you have heard. Beware! Even the lowest of the Muslims can grant protection."
وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ، ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ رُومَانَ، قَالَ: لَمَّا دَخَلَ أَبُو الْعَاصِ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ عَلَى زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاسْتَجَارَ بِهَا، خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الصُّبْحِ، فَلَمَّا كَبَّرَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ صَرَخَتْ زَيْنَبُ: أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، إِنِّي قَدْ أَجَرْتُ أَبَا الْعَاصِ بْنَ الرَّبِيعِ. فَلَمَّا سَلَّمَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ، قَالَ: " أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، هَلْ سَمِعْتُمْ مَا سَمِعْتُ؟ ". قَالُوا: نَعَمْ. قَالَ: " أَمَا وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ مَا عَلِمْتُ بِشَيْءٍ مِمَّا كَانَ حَتَّى سَمِعْتُ مِنْهُ مَا سَمِعْتُمْ، إِنَّهُ يُجِيرُ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ أَدْنَاهُمْ ". ثُمَّ دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى زَيْنَبَ، فَقَالَ: " أَيْ بُنَيَّةُ أَكْرِمِي مَثْوَاهُ، وَلَا يَقْرَبَنَّكِ فَإِنَّكِ لَا تَحِلِّينَ لَهُ وَلَا يَحِلُّ لَكِ ". " هَكَذَا أُخْبِرْنَا فِي كِتَابِ الْمَغَازِي مُنْقَطِعًا، وَحُدِّثْنَا بِهِ فِي كِتَابِ الْمُسْتَدْرَكِ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ رُومَانَ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ: صَرَخَتْ زَيْنَبُ فَذَكَرَهُ.
Yazid bin Ruman narrates that when Abu al-As bin al-Rabi' came to Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) and asked her for protection, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had gone out for the morning prayer. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) said the takbir of the prayer, Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) called out loudly: "O people! I have given protection to Abu al-As bin al-Rabi'." When he (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer with the salam, he said: "O people! Did you hear what I heard?" The people said: "Yes!" Then he said: "By the One in whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), I knew nothing about this until I heard from her what you also heard." And he said: "Even the lowest of the Muslims can grant protection." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) went to Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: "O my daughter! Give him good lodging, but he must not come near you, for you are not lawful for him, nor is he lawful for you."

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُقْرِئُ، أنبأ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ وَائِلِ بْنِ دَاوُدَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْبَهِيِّ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا، قَالَتْ: قُلْتُ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ أَبَا الْعَاصِ بْنَ الرَّبِيعِ إِنْ قَرُبَ فَابْنُ عَمٍّ، وَإِنْ بَعُدَ فَأَبُو وَلَدٍ، وَإِنِّي قَدْ أَجَرْتُهُ. فَأَجَازَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ. ⦗١٦٣⦘ وَقِيلَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ، أَنَّ زَيْنَبَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَهُوَ مُرْسَلٌ.
Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Abu al-As bin al-Rabi', if (the relation is) close, is the son of a paternal uncle; and if (it is) distant, he is the father of (my) children; and I have given him protection." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also granted him protection.
(b) Abdullah (al-Bahi) narrates that Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
