When Sayyiduna Talhah bin al-Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him) met the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said to him (peace and blessings be upon him): "Command me whatever you like; I will not disobey you in any matter." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was amazed at this, as he was still young, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Kill your father!" When he turned away to carry it out, he (peace and blessings be upon him) called him back and said: "I have not been sent to sever ties of kinship."

Abdullah bin Shawdhab (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The father of Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him) would set up idols for him, and Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) would keep away from him. When al-Jarrah persisted in this, Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) went for him and killed him. Allah Almighty revealed this verse concerning him when Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) killed his father: "You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day loving those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they are their fathers or their sons." [Surah al-Mujadilah: 22]
This (report) is munqati' (broken).

Malik bin Umayr (may Allah be pleased with him), who had lived through the Jahiliyyah, said: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I met the enemy, and my father was among them. I heard him say something vile about you, and I could not restrain myself; I struck him with a spear, and as a result he was killed. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent about it. Then another man came and said: I met my father and left him, and I wanted someone other than me to deal with him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent again.
This is a good mursal report.
