أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، أنبأ الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، ثنا أَسَدُ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا ضَمْرَةُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ شَوْذَبٍ، قَالَ: " جَعَلَ أَبُو أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ الْجَرَّاحِ يَنْصِبُ الْآلِهَةَ لِأَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ يَحِيدُ عَنْهُ، فَلَمَّا أَكْثَرَ الْجَرَّاحُ قَصَدَهُ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ فَقَتَلَهُ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فِيهِ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ حِينَ قَتَلَ أَبَاهُ: {لَا تَجِدُ قَوْمًا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ يُوَادُّونَ مَنْ حَادَّ اللهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَلَوْ كَانُوا آبَاءَهُمْ أَوْ أَبْنَاءَهُمْ} [المجادلة: ٢٢] إِلَى آخِرِهَا. هَذَا مُنْقَطِعٌ.
Abdullah bin Shawdhab (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The father of Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him) would set up idols for him, and Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) would keep away from him. When al-Jarrah persisted in this, Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) went for him and killed him. Allah Almighty revealed this verse concerning him when Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) killed his father: "You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day loving those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they are their fathers or their sons." [Surah al-Mujadilah: 22]
