Ibn Ubayd bin al-Abras said: I witnessed Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) in al-Rahabah while he was distributing the khumus (one-fifth of the spoils) among the people. A man from Hadramawt stole an iron helmet from the goods, and he was brought to Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: His hand will not be cut off; he is a betrayer of trust, and he has a share (in it).

Maymun bin Mihran (may Allah have mercy on him) said that a slave from the khumus of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stole (from the khumus), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not cut off his hand and said: "Part of the property has stolen another part."
This has also been narrated with a connected chain, in which there is weakness.
