Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When we stoned Sayyiduna Ma'iz (may Allah be pleased with him), we took him out to al-Baqi'. By Allah, we neither buried him (in a pit) nor tied him up; he remained standing. We threw bones and pottery shards at him, and he ran because of the pain; we caught up with him at al-Harrah and pelted him with large rocks until he fell still.

Sayyiduna Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when Sayyiduna Ma'iz (may Allah be pleased with him) came and said: "O Prophet of Allah, I have committed adultery, and I want to be purified." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go back." The next day he came again, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again said: "Go back." And he (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a man to his people, saying: "Go and ask what is the matter with Ma'iz. How is he? Is there something (wrong) with his mind?" They said: "O Prophet of Allah, we have not seen any such thing in him." On the third day he came again, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again asked his people and received the same answer. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the order; then a pit was dug for him, Sayyiduna Ma'iz (may Allah be pleased with him) was placed in it up to his chest, and then he was stoned.

Sayyiduna Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that a woman of Ghamid (may Allah be pleased with her) came and said: "O Messenger of Allah, purify me, for I have committed adultery." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go back." She said: Just as you were sending Sayyiduna Ma'iz (may Allah be pleased with him) back, you are sending me back in the same way; by Allah, I am pregnant. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go back until you give birth to it." When she gave birth to the child, she brought him wrapped in a cloth and again asked him (peace and blessings be upon him) for the stoning. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take him and nurse him until he begins to eat food." Some time later she came again, and the child had a piece of bread in his hand. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) handed the child over to a man, and it was ordered for the woman that a pit be dug; the woman was placed in it up to her chest, and then he ordered the people to stone her. Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) threw a stone, and the spatter of her blood fell on Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him), so he reviled her. At this the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Be quiet, Khalid! She has repented with such a repentance that if one who levies unjust taxes were to repent like it, he too would be forgiven." Then he gave the order, the funeral prayer was offered over her, and she was buried.

Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a woman stoned, and a pit was dug for her up to her chest. In Abu Dawud these words are additional: She was pelted with pebbles, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Avoid the face." When she died, he had her taken out and also offered the funeral prayer over her, and then he said about her repentance what the last words of the previous hadith say.
