Malik bin Anas (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Imam al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) that a man struck a woman, causing her to miscarry. Ibn Shihab (may Allah have mercy on him) said: For her child a fine (ghurrah) is due from him, and expiation (kaffarah) is due from him.

Ibn Shihab (may Allah have mercy on him) said concerning a woman who was struck, and she had three children in her womb who were miscarried: al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: In our view, for each one of them a fine (ghurrah) is due, and we hold that for every fetus that has clearly become a pregnancy a fine (ghurrah) is due. Yunus (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Ibn Shihab (may Allah have mercy on him) said about a woman whom a man struck, and she died, and her pregnancy was also lost: The woman has her blood money (diyah); as for the child, it was with the woman, and in our view there is no blood money for it. We do not know of any earlier judgement on this. Malik also said the same.
Ibn al-Mundhir reported expiation (kaffarah) for the fetus from Ata, al-Hasan and al-Nakha'i.

And they used to say: Whoever kills a pregnant woman while the child is still in her womb, only the woman's blood money is due, not the child's.
