Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that a man struck another man in the knee with a horn. That man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for retaliation, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Get well, then come." He refused and immediately demanded retaliation. Retaliation was given to him, and the knee of the one from whom retaliation was taken healed, while his did not. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is nothing for you; this is because of your refusal."

Imam al-Daraqutni (may Allah have mercy on him) said: In the previous narration the two sons of Abu Shaybah made a mistake, and Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) contradicted them both; he narrated it as mursal through Ibn Ulayyah, from Ayyub, from Amr. Likewise did Amr bin Dinar (may Allah have mercy on him) and his companions, and what is mahfuz (preserved) is also that it is mursal.

Muhammad bin Talhah narrated similarly from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and Amr bin Shu'ayb narrates from his father, who narrates from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with them both), these words: he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah distance you; you were hasty."

Muhammad bin Talhah bin Yazid said: A man wounded another man's leg with a horn. He came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to take retaliation. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wait." Then he came again to take retaliation. He (peace and blessings be upon him) again said: "Wait." Then he came a third time, or more, seeking retaliation, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him retaliation. That man's leg healed, while the leg of the one who took retaliation became paralysed. So he came again to demand retaliation, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Now there is nothing for you. Did I not tell you to wait?"

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man was wounded and sought retaliation, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade it and said: "Not until the wound has healed."
Only this al-Umawi narrated it from them, and from him only Ya'qub bin Humayd.

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wounds will be assessed and a year will be waited, then retaliation will be taken according to the state the wound ends up in."
Likewise a group of weak narrators narrated it from Abu al-Zubayr, and it is also narrated through two other routes from Jabir, but none of that is authentic.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: A man wounded another man's thigh. He came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) seeking retaliation, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "First get well." He demanded again, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Get well." He demanded again, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him retaliation. Some time later the man who had taken retaliation came and said: My leg has become paralysed. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have taken your right."

Amr bin Shu'ayb narrates from his father, who narrates from his grandfather, that a man struck another man's knee with a horn and wounded it, so he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to take retaliation. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "First get well." He came again to demand it, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) granted him retaliation. Then some time later he came and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I have become lame. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Did I not forbid you? You disobeyed me; may Allah distance you, and your lameness goes uncompensated." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that retaliation be taken (for a wound) until it has healed.
