Sayyiduna Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever kills his slave, we will kill him; whoever cuts off a limb of his slave, we will cut off his limb; and whoever castrates his slave, we will castrate him."

Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever kills his slave, we will kill him; and whoever cuts off a limb of his, we will cut off his limb." Qatadah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Then al-Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) forgot this hadith and began to say: A free man is not to be killed for a slave. Al-Shaykh (may Allah have mercy on him) said: It is possible that al-Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) did not forget it, but rather abandoned it because of its weakness. Most of the scholars of hadith turned away from al-Hasan's narrations from Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him), and some of them held that al-Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) did not hear any hadith from Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) except the hadith of the aqiqah.

Shu'bah (may Allah have mercy on him) said that al-Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) did not hear from Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him), and this is also the position of Yahya bin Ma'in (may Allah have mercy on him). Ali bin al-Madini (may Allah have mercy on him) said that al-Hasan's (may Allah have mercy on him) hearing from Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) is established.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A slave girl came to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: My master accused me and made me sit on fire until my private parts were burned. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: Did he see you doing anything? She said: No. He asked: Did you confess anything? She said: No. So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Bring her master. When he came, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do you punish people with the punishment of Allah? The man said: O Commander of the Believers, she was accused of immorality. He asked: Did you see her doing anything, or did she confess anything? He said: No. So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By Allah, had I not heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say, "A slave is not to be given retaliation against his owner, nor a child against his father," I would have taken retaliation from you. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) rebuked him and gave him a hundred lashes, and said to the slave girl: Go! You are free for the sake of Allah; you are the bondwoman of Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Zinba' had a slave named Sandar, or Ibn Sandar. He found him kissing a slave girl of his, so he seized him, castrated him, and cut off his ears and nose. He came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who sent for Zinba' and said: "Do not burden them with what they cannot bear; feed them from what you eat, and clothe them from what you wear. If you dislike a slave, sell him; and if you are pleased with him, keep him. And do not torment the creation of Allah." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever has been mutilated or burned with fire is free, and he is the freedman (mawla) of Allah and His Messenger." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) freed him. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, make a recommendation concerning me." He said: "I commend you to every Muslim."
Al-Muthanna bin al-Sabbah is da'if (weak) and is not used as proof. It has also been narrated from al-Hajjaj bin Artat from Amr in abridged form, and he is not used as proof; and from Sawwar Abu Hamzah from Amr, and he is not strong. And Allah knows best.
