Thabit narrates from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): I attended the wedding feast (walimah) of Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her). He (peace and blessings be upon him) fed the people their fill of meat and bread. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would send me and I would bring the people in. When the men had finished, I followed him (peace and blessings be upon him), and two men remained, absorbed in conversation. They did not leave, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by his wives, and to each one he passed he would give greetings: 'Al-salamu alaykum ahl al-bayt, kayfa antum?' (Peace be upon you, O people of the house; how are you?) They would say: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! We are well; how did you (peace and blessings be upon him) find your family? When he (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished and returned, I returned with him (peace and blessings be upon him). When he (peace and blessings be upon him) reached the door, there were the two men absorbed in conversation; when they saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) coming, they left. By Allah! I do not know whether I informed him (peace and blessings be upon him) or revelation came down to him (peace and blessings be upon him) that the two of them had left. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) and I returned, he (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his feet on the threshold of the door and let down a curtain between me and himself, and this verse was revealed: "O you who believe, do not enter the houses of the Prophet" [Surah al-Ahzab: 53].

Hisham bin Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father that Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said to him: O my nephew! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not favour any of us over another in assigning turns, and every day he (peace and blessings be upon him) would visit each wife without intercourse, until he spent the night with the one whose turn it was.
