Sayyidah Fatimah bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her) said that Abu Amr bin Hafs (may Allah be pleased with him) divorced her irrevocably (talaq al-battah) while he was absent. She mentioned the hadith. (She said:) When I became lawful (that is, my waiting period was completed), I mentioned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah and Sayyiduna Abu Jahm (may Allah be pleased with them both) had proposed marriage to me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Abu Jahm does not put his staff down from his shoulder (that is, he strikes, or he is always travelling), and Mu'awiyah is a poor man who has no wealth. Marry Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him)." She said: I disliked him. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Marry Usamah." So I married Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him), and Allah Almighty placed blessing in it, and I came to be envied.
