A woman who had married her own slave was brought to Hadrat Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). The woman said: Has Allah not said in the Qur'an: "Or those your right hands possess" [Surah al-Nisa: 3]? Hadrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) applied the prescribed punishment to both of them, separated them, and wrote to the governors: Any woman who marries her slave, or marries without evidence, or without a guardian, apply the prescribed punishment to both of them.

A woman who had married her slave was brought to Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). He (may Allah be pleased with him) punished her, separated the two of them, and, as a punishment for her, made (all other) husbands unlawful for her.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that a woman inherited a slave from her husband's property. The matter was brought before Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said (to the slave): Have you had intercourse with her? He said: No. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Had you had intercourse with her, I would have stoned you. Then he said to the woman: He is your slave; if you wish, sell him; if you wish, give him away as a gift; and if you wish, set him free and marry him.
