(b) In (the narration of) Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi the words are: "nor for one who is strong and powerful."

It is narrated from Sa'd bin Ibrahim that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Nor is it permissible for a strong and healthy person to ask for sadaqah." Ibrahim bin Sa'd narrated it from his father, and there is disagreement over him too about whether it is marfu' (attributed to the Prophet) and about its wording; and the narration of those who report it as marfu' is sufficient.
Al-mirrah means strength; its origin is the tight twisting of a rope.

Zuhayr al-Amiri said: I said to Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both): Tell me about sadaqah, what kind of wealth is it? He said: 'Sharru mal' "It is the worst of wealth" (that is, it is a trial and a test). This wealth is to be given to the blind, the lame or those whose hands and feet do not move (the disabled), the orphans, and everyone in a similar situation to all of these. I said: Do the collectors and the mujahidun have any right in the sadaqah? He said: For the collectors, an amount in proportion to their work; for the mujahidun in the way of Allah, according to their need, or he said: according to their condition. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed sadaqah is not lawful for a rich person, nor is it lawful for one who is healthy and strong."

Sufyan was asked: Is it from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: Perhaps. Al-Humaydi narrated it from Sufyan with his chain and said: From Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who attributed it (to the Prophet).

Ubaydullah bin Adi bin al-Khiyar (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from two men that they both came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was distributing the sadaqah goats, and we too asked him (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his gaze towards us and looked at us intently, and said: "If you wish, I will give to you, but there is no right in it for a rich person, nor for one who has the strength to earn."
