Malik bin Aws bin al-Hadathan (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I heard Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) saying that the properties of Banu al-Nadir, which Allah Almighty returned to His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and against which the Muslims had not spurred on horses or camels, were exclusively for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would spend from it on his household a year's provision, and the remainder he would dedicate to weapons and the like in the path of Allah.

Then I took charge of it just as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) had been in charge of it.
