Muhammad bin Ishaq bin Yasar says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went on, and when he came out of a narrow pass called al-Safra', he came out of it to a sand dune called Sayr, a night's journey or more from Badr, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) divided the spoils among the Muslims on that dune.
Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) says: Those around Sayr, and its people, were polytheists. And al-Shafi'i said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) divided the properties of Banu al-Mustaliq and their captives at the very place where he had taken them as spoils, before moving away from it, and all around it was the land of polytheism; and most of what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and the commanders of his expeditions took as spoils, they divided in the lands of the people at war.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out on the day of Badr with three hundred and fifteen men. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah! They are barefoot, so give them mounts. O Allah! They are unclothed, so clothe them. O Allah! They are hungry, so fill them." So Allah Almighty granted him (peace and blessings be upon him) victory on the day of Badr, and when they returned, there was not a man among them who did not return with a camel or two camels, and they were clothed and well fed.
