Abdullah bin Buraydah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Buraydah, may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering a sermon. Meanwhile Sayyiduna al-Hasan and Sayyiduna al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them both) came, wearing red shirts; they would stumble and fall and then stand up again. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw them, he (peace and blessings be upon him) came down (from the pulpit), picked them both up, then climbed the pulpit and placed them both in his lap. Then he said: "Allah has spoken the truth: 'Indeed, your wealth and your children are a trial.' [Surah al-Taghabun: 15] I saw these two and could not restrain myself, so I picked them up."

Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the pulpit, and Sayyiduna al-Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) was with him (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) would look at him once and at the people once, and he said: "This son of mine is a leader. Perhaps Allah will bring about reconciliation between two groups of Muslims through him."

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When Sayyiduna al-Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) was born, I named him Harb. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) came, he said: "Show me my son; what have you named him?" I said: Harb. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, rather he is Hasan." Then when Sayyiduna al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) was born, I named him Harb. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rather he is Husayn." When the third son was born, I named him Harb. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to see him and said: "Show me my son; what have you named him?" I said: Harb. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rather he is Muhsin." Then he said: "I have named them after the names of the children of Harun: Shabbar, Shabbir and Mushabbar."
