Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) "forbade taking the price of a dog, and also forbade the earnings of a prostitute and the fee of a soothsayer."

Awn bin Abi Juhayfah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I heard my father (may Allah be pleased with him); he had bought a slave who was a cupper, and he broke his cupping instruments and said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the price of drawing blood, and forbade the price of a dog and the earnings of a prostitute; he (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the one who consumes usury (riba) and the one who pays it, cursed the woman who tattoos and the woman who has herself tattooed, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the image-maker."

Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The earnings of the cupper, the earnings of a prostitute and the price of a dog are impure."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the price of a dog, the earnings of a prostitute and the price of wine, and said: "When someone comes to you seeking the price of a dog, fill his palm with dust."

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The price of a dog, the fee of a soothsayer and the earnings of a prostitute are not lawful."
Hadith Referenceالسنن الكبرى للبيهقي / كتاب البيوع / 11010
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he (the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the earnings of a prostitute, the fee for a stud animal, the price of a cat, and the price of a dog, except a hunting dog. In another narration from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Three things are all unlawful earnings," and in this hadith he mentioned the earnings of the cupper, the earnings of a prostitute and the price of a dog, except a trained hunting dog.
Hammad's narration from Qays is questionable (fihi nazar), and al-Walid and al-Muthanna are both da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The price of a dog and of a cat was forbidden, except the price of a hunting dog."
In some narrations Hammad did not mention the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in it, and the narration of al-Hasan bin Abi Ja'far from Abu al-Zubayr from Jabir from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is not strong.
The sahih hadiths in which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the price of a dog do not contain this exception. The exception is found only in the hadiths forbidding the keeping of dogs; perhaps this is a mistake by the narrators.

Imran bin Abi Anas said: Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) fined a man twenty camels for killing a dog. Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I said to him: What do you think: even if this were established from Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), would it give you any argument against what is established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? Moreover, the opposite of it is established from Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: Then mention it. I said: It is narrated from Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: I heard Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) delivering a sermon, and he was ordering that dogs be killed. Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: How could he order the killing of dogs while imposing on someone who kills a dog a fine of its value? The narration is weak; Imran's hearing from Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) is not established.

Amr bin Shu'ayb narrates from his father, from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him), that he imposed a fine of forty dirhams on a man who killed a hunting dog, and ruled that a ram be given for killing a dog that guards livestock. This narration is mawquf.
Ibn Jurayj is not considered to have heard from Amr; al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) said: He did not hear it.

The Shaykh (may Allah have mercy on him) said: This narration was reported by Isma'il bin Jistas, who is not well known, from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: "For a hunting dog, a ruling of forty dirhams was given; for a dog that guards sheep, a fine of one sheep was fixed; the fine for a dog that guards crops is a large measure (faraq) of food; and for a house dog, a ruling of a large measure (faraq) of dust was given. Whoever kills a dog is obliged to pay the required fine, and the owner of the dog is obliged to accept it, with a reduction in his reward."

Isma'il bin Jistas said: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) imposed a fine of forty dirhams for a hunting dog.
Imam al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) said: No one has corroborated him in this hadith. And the Shaykh said that this is not the position of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him); rather, what is authentic from him is different from this.
