Nafi' (may Allah have mercy on him) says that whenever Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) bought a slave-girl, he would remove the cloth from her shin and place his hand between her breasts and on her buttocks, and this was over the garment.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no harm in a man having a slave-girl walk about and examining her when he wishes to buy her, and he may look at her other than her 'awrah (the part to be covered); her 'awrah is from the knees up to where the waist-wrap is tied."
Only Hafs bin Umar, the judge of Aleppo, narrated it from Salih bin Hassan; we have also narrated it in the Book of Prayer through Isa bin Maymun from Muhammad bin Ka'b, and both chains are weak. And Allah knows best.
