It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) "forbade the sale involving deception and the pebble sale."

Al-Rabi' bin Sulayman says: We said to Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him): Ali bin Ma'bad (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates with his chain from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he permitted selling wheat in its ears when the ears turn white. Imam al-Shafi'i said: "As for that, it is deception, because there is a barrier around it and it cannot be seen. If this report is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we will hold by it, and it will be a specific case taken out of a general rule, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the sale involving deception and permitted this."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) "forbade selling dates before they ripen, and (forbade) selling ears of wheat until they turn white and are safe from blights." He (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade both the buyer and the seller.
(b) Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded this hadith, that selling fruits before they ripen is prohibited, and Imam al-Bukhari did not record it. The mention of the ears of wheat in this hadith is something that, among the students of Nafi, only Ayyub al-Sakhtiyani narrated from Nafi; Ayyub is thiqah (trustworthy) and a proof, and an addition from someone like him is accepted.
(c) No one other than Ayyub narrated from Nafi that he (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade selling the ears of wheat until they turn white.

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade "selling grain before it hardens, grapes before they turn black, and fruits before they ripen."
Note: The words "the grain hardens and the grapes turn black" are narrated only by Hammad bin Salamah from his teacher Humayd, while the others narrate from Humayd, from Anas, without this mention.

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade "that fruit be sold before it ripens, until it turns yellow or red, and he forbade selling grapes until they turn black, and grain until it is fit to be rubbed out of the ear."
Aban bin Abi Ayyash also narrated it from Anas with the second wording, and he is not used as evidence.

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade "selling grain until it is fit to be rubbed out, dates until they ripen, and fruit until it is fit to eat."
(b) Jabir al-Ju'fi narrates from Umm Thawr that her husband Bishr asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): When should dates be sold? He said: When they ripen. Bishr says: I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) about selling crops while they are in the ear, and he said: When they turn yellow.
It was also narrated through Abu Shaybah from Anas bin Malik, and that is worthless. This chain (of Ibn Abbas) is weak; the authentic narration in this chapter is that of Ayyub al-Sakhtiyani, then the narration of Hammad bin Salamah with the wording we mentioned. And Allah knows best.

Salim bin Abdullah narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both)) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) "forbade selling fruits before they ripen."
Al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The scholars say that (its ripening is) that it turns yellow, and the ripening of crops is that the ear becomes fit to be rubbed out.
