Waqid bin Abi Waqid al-Laythi narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Abu Waqid al-Laythi, may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his wives during his Hajj: "This is the Hajj; after it, remain confined (at home)."

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his wives at the Farewell Hajj: "It is only this Hajj; after it, remain confined (at home)."
All of them used to travel except Zaynab and Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with them both), for they both said: "No mount shall move us after what we heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)."
Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) prevented the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from Hajj because of the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "It is only this Hajj; after it, remain confined (at home)."
The Shaykh said: We have narrated at the beginning of the Book of Hajj, in the chapter on the Hajj of women, from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that he permitted them to perform Hajj in the last Hajj that he performed, and sent Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan and Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with them both) with them. In that, and in the Hajj of all the (other) wives, there is evidence that what is meant by his (peace and blessings be upon him) saying, "This, then remain confined (at home)," is that Hajj is obligatory only once, and that he preferred for them to give up travelling after the obligation had been fulfilled.

Ibrahim bin Sa'd narrates from his father, (who narrates) from his grandfather, that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) permitted the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to perform Hajj, and sent Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan and Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with them both) with them. Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) would call out to the people that no one should come near them or look at them except from as far as the eye can reach. They were in howdahs on the camels. He lodged them at the head of the valley, and Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them both) camped at its lower end, so no one went up to them.
