قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ: بَلَغَنَا أَنَّ سُهَيْلَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو أَهْدَى لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْهُ، قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ: وَالْمَاءُ لَيْسَ بِشَيْءٍ يَزُولُ فَلَا يَعُودُ.
Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "It has reached us that Sayyiduna Suhayl bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) sent some of it (Zamzam water) as a gift to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."
Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) further said: "And water is not something that, once gone, does not return."

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نَصْرِ بْنُ قَتَادَةَ، أنا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ السَّرَّاجُ، ثنا مُطَيَّنٌ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ، ثنا هُشَيْمٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُؤَمَّلِ الْمَخْزُومِيِّ، عَنِ ابْنِ ⦗٣٣١⦘ مُحَيْصِنٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: اسْتَهْدَى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُهَيْلَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو مِنْ مَاءِ زَمْزَمَ وَرُوِيَ فِي ذَلِكَ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ.
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Suhayl bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) to send him some Zamzam water as a gift.
وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، وَأَبُو نَصْرِ بْنُ قَتَادَةَ قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ شَيْبَانَ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ بِهَرَاةَ، أنا مُعَاذُ بْنُ نَجْدَةَ، ثنا خَلَّادُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ طَهْمَانَ، ثنا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ، قَالَ: كُنَّا عِنْدَ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ فَتَحَدَّثْنَا فَحَضَرَتْ صَلَاةُ الْعَصْرِ، فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى بِنَا فِي ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ قَدْ تَلَبَّبَ بِهِ وَرِدَاؤُهُ مَوْضُوعٌ ثُمَّ أُتِيَ بِمَاءٍ مِنْ مَاءِ زَمْزَمَ فَشَرِبَ ثُمَّ شَرِبَ فَقَالُوا: مَا هَذَا؟ قَالَ: هَذَا مَاءُ زَمْزَمَ، وَقَالَ فِيهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " مَاءُ زَمْزَمَ لِمَا شُرِبَ لَهُ " قَالَ: ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تُفْتَحَ مَكَّةُ إِلَى سُهَيْلِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو " أَنِ اهْدِ لَنَا مِنْ مَاءِ زَمْزَمَ وَلَا يَتِرُكَ "، قَالَ: فَبَعَثَ إِلَيْهِ بِمُزَادَتَيْنِ.
Abu al-Zubayr (may Allah have mercy on him) said: We were with Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both), talking, when the time of the Asr prayer came. He stood and led us in prayer in a single garment wrapped around his neck and chest, while his cloak lay set aside. Then some Zamzam water was brought to him, and he drank, then drank again. They asked: "What is this?" He said: This is Zamzam water, and about it the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Zamzam water is for whatever it is drunk for." He said: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), while he was in Madinah before Makkah was conquered, sent word to Suhayl bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him): "Send us some Zamzam water as a gift, and do not neglect it." So he sent him two large water-skins.
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ التَّمِيمِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، وَأَنَا سَأَلْتُهُ، ثنا خَلَّادُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْجُعْفِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ الْجُعْفِيُّ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ " أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ كَانَتْ تَحْمِلُ مَاءَ زَمْزَمَ وَتُخْبِرُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَفْعَلُهُ " وَرَوَاهُ غَيْرُهُ عَنْ أَبِي كُرَيْبٍ وَزَادَ فِيهِ " حَمَلَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْأَدَاوِي وَالْقِرَبِ وَكَانَ يَصُبُّ عَلَى الْمَرْضَى وَيَسْقِيهِمْ "، قَالَ الْبُخَارِيُّ: وَلَا يُتَابَعُ خَلَّادُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ عَلَيْهِ.
Hisham bin Urwah narrates from his father that Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) used to carry Zamzam water with her and would say that "the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do so." Others narrated it from Abu Kurayb with an addition: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) carried it in small vessels and water-skins, and he would pour it on the sick and give them to drink."
Imam Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Khallad bin Yazid is not corroborated in this.
