قَالَ اللهُ تَعَالَى {فَجَزَاءٌ مِثْلُ مَا قَتَلَ مِنَ النَّعَمِ} [المائدة: 95] قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ: وَالْمِثْلُ مِثْلُ صِفَةِ مَا قَتَلَ.
Allah Almighty says: "Then the compensation is the like of what he killed, from livestock." [Surah al-Ma'idah: 95]
Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "And 'the like' (equivalent) means the like in description of the game that he killed."

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو، ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ الْأَصَمُّ، أنبأ الرَّبِيعُ، أنبأ الشَّافِعِيُّ، أنبأ مُسْلِمُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ سَالِمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: " إِنْ قَتَلَ صَيْدًا أَعْوَرَ أَوْ مَنْقُوصًا فَدَاهُ بِأَعْوَرَ مِثْلِهِ، أَوْ مَنْقُوصٍ، وَوَافٍ أَحَبُّ إِلِيَّ، وَإِنْ قَتَلَ صِغَارَ أَوْلَادِ الصَّيْدِ فَدَاهُ بِصِغَارِ أَوْلَادِ الْغَنَمِ ".
Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) says: If the muhrim kills a one-eyed or defective animal of game, its ransom may also be given with a one-eyed or defective animal, though a complete ransom is dearer to me. And if he kills the small young of game, a small young goat is to be given for it.
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ، ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: " أَهْدَى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي هَدْيِهِ جَمَلًا لِأَبِي جَهْلٍ فِي أَنْفِهِ بُرَةُ فِضَّةٍ؛ لِيَغِيظَ بِهِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ ".
Mujahid narrates from Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) included among his sacrificial animals a camel that had belonged to Abu Jahl, with a silver ring in its nose, in order to enrage the polytheists.
