Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) ruled: When a muhrim hunts a hyena, he must sacrifice a ram for it; for a gazelle, a goat; likewise for a hare, a one-year-old goat; and for a jerboa, a goat as well. Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that a man came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) and said: I killed a hare while in the state of ihram; what is your view? He said: It walks on four legs and a young goat also walks on four legs; the hare eats from trees and so does the young goat; the hare chews the cud and the young goat also chews the cud. Sacrifice a young goat in its place. [Da'if]
