Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Ibrahim, the Friend of Allah (peace be upon him), came to perform the rites, Satan appeared before him at Jamrat al-Aqabah, and he threw seven pebbles at him until he sank into the ground. Then he appeared before him at the second Jamrah, and he threw seven pebbles at him until he sank into the ground. Then he appeared before him at the third Jamrah, and he threw seven pebbles at him until he sank into the ground." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Stone Satan, and follow the religion of your father Ibrahim.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that Jibril came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and took him to show him the rites. (Mount) Thabir split open for him, and he entered Mina; he showed him the Jamarat, then Muzdalifah, then the plain of Arafat. Then Satan appeared before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at the Jamrah, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) threw seven pebbles at him until he sank. Then he appeared at the second Jamrah, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) threw seven pebbles at him until he sank. Then he appeared at Jamrat al-Aqabah, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) threw seven pebbles at him until he sank.
Only Ata bin al-Sa'ib narrated it in this way.

Abu al-Tufayl said: I said to Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): Your people claim that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Tawaf of the House riding on a camel, and that it is a Sunnah. He said: They have spoken the truth and they have lied. I said: What truth have they spoken and what lie have they told? He said: They speak the truth that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Tawaf of the House on a camel, but it is not a Sunnah; for people were not driven away from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Tawaf on a camel so that the people could hear his (peace and blessings be upon him) words and their hands could not reach him (peace and blessings be upon him). I said: They claim that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did raml (walking briskly) in the Tawaf of the House, and that this is a Sunnah. He said: They have spoken the truth and they have lied. I said: What truth have they spoken and what lie have they told? He said: The truth is that he (peace and blessings be upon him) did raml, and the lie is their saying that it is a Sunnah. Quraysh had said: Leave Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions until they die the death of the naghaf (worms in the head). Then when they made a treaty with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that they would come the following year and stay in Makkah for three days, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) came, while the polytheists were sitting on the side of Qu'ayqi'an. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his companions: "Do raml," and it is not a Sunnah. I said: Your people claim that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Sa'i between al-Safa and al-Marwah, and that this is a Sunnah. He said: They speak the truth. When Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was shown the rites, Satan appeared to him at the place of Sa'i and began racing against him, but Ibrahim (peace be upon him) got ahead of him. Then Jibril (peace be upon him) took him along until they reached Mina, and he said: This is where the people make their camels kneel. Then they reached Jamrat al-Aqabah, and Satan appeared, so he threw seven pebbles at him until he went away. Then they reached Muzdalifah, and he said: This is al-Mash'ar al-Haram (the Sacred Monument). Then he brought him to Arafah and said: This is Arafah. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Do you know why it is named Arafah? He said: No. He said: Because Jibril (peace be upon him) said to him: Have you recognised (it)? Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Do you know how the Talbiyah was? I asked: How was it? He said: When Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was commanded to proclaim the Hajj among the people, the mountains were commanded and they lowered their heads, and the towns were raised up for him (peace be upon him), and he (peace be upon him) proclaimed the Hajj among the people. Abu Asim al-Ghanawi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated a similar hadith, but he added a few things. He said that he (peace and blessings be upon him) went between al-Safa and al-Marwah riding on a camel. And here he also added: Then Satan appeared at the middle Jamrah, and he threw seven pebbles at him until he went away. Then he laid him (his son) on his forehead, and Isma'il (peace be upon him) was wearing a white shirt. He said: "O my dear father! I have no garment in which you could shroud me." So he began to take off that shirt, and a voice called from behind him: "You have fulfilled the vision. Indeed, thus do We reward the doers of good" [Surah al-Saffat: 104-105], "O Ibrahim! You have indeed fulfilled the vision; indeed, thus do We reward the doers of good." Ibrahim (peace be upon him) looked, and there was a white ram with large eyes and large horns, so he slaughtered it. Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I think we seek out rams of this very kind. Then Jibril (peace be upon him) took him to the farthest Jamrah, and Satan appeared, so he threw seven pebbles at him until he went away. Then he mentioned the rest of the hadith in the same way.
